Doha: A team of students from Qatar has achieved remarkable success at the 10th Gulf Science Olympiad, held recently in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The event, organized by the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States in collaboration with Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Education, saw the Qatari team securing a total of eight medals across various scientific disciplines.

In the Mathematics Olympiad, the team won one silver and four bronze medals. The Chemistry Olympiad participants garnered two bronze medals, while the Physics Olympiad team secured one bronze medal. This diverse collection of medals underscores the comprehensive scientific acumen present among Qatar’s youth.

Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Maha Zayed Al Qaqa Al Ruwaili, attended the closing ceremony and expressed immense pride in the students’ accomplishments. She emphasized the importance of such achievements in fostering scientific excellence and aligning with Qatar’s Third Nati
onal Development Strategy, which aims to prepare students for success in international arenas and encourage them to pursue scientific specializations.

The Gulf Science Olympiad is a prestigious competition that brings together students from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries to compete in subjects like mathematics, chemistry, and physics. In this edition, 84 public education students and 44 heads of delegations and supervisors from member states participated. The Qatari team comprised 14 students, representing both genders, who showcased exceptional talent and dedication.

This success reflects the effectiveness of Qatar’s educational initiatives and the commitment of its students to excellence. It also highlights the collaborative efforts between educational institutions and the Ministry in nurturing young talents and promoting scientific literacy across the nation.
