TEHRAN: The Qatari beach handball team defeated Philippines 2-0 in the opening of their campaign at the eighth Asian Men’s Beach Handball Championship in Iran’s capital city of Tehran on Tuesday.
Following its Tuesday’s convincing victory over Philippines, team Qatar will face Oman on Wednesday, India in their third match on March 25 before taking on Vietnam the next day. Qatar will face hosts Iran in their last match on March 28.
Besides hosts Iran and defending champions Qatar, Oman, Vietnam, the Philippines and India are participating in the event that will last from 22nd to 28th of March.
Teams securing the top two positions in the continental event will qualify for the World Championships in Greece.
Qatar were crowned champions in China in 2019, after a 2-0 win over Oman in the final.
