The House of Representatives decided to adjourn its session until tomorrow, Sunday, after completing the second reading “report and discussion” of the draft law on access to information in its session today, Saturday.
The Parliamentary Committee on Culture, Tourism and Media believes that the legislation of the Right to Information Law comes in line with the concepts of democracy and transparency from which the Iraqi Constitution was launched, and complements the principles of rights and freedoms within the framework of the Constitution.
The importance of the legislation comes from it being a basic factor in combating corruption and tightening control over official institutions, and making the Iraqi citizen part of the oversight agencies, which will increase public confidence in state agencies, and make the relationship based on cooperation and cohesion, as the importance of enacting the law comes within the framework of legal and international obligations that must be fulfilled.
