The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) announced new statistics on its procedures and preparations for the provincial council elections, which are scheduled for the end of this year.
The head of the IHEC’s media team, Imad Jamil, said in a press conference today, Tuesday, that “more than 220,000 voters have updated their data, and more than a quarter of a million voters have visited the registration centers for the purpose of checking the data.”
He added, “The candidates are competing for 275 seats in the governorates, and 10 seats for the components distributed by 4 for Christians, 2 for Faili Kurds, the same number for Sabean Mandaeans, and one seat for each of the Yazidis and Shabak.”
He continued to say, “Nineveh was the first among the provinces in terms of demand for modernization centers, followed by Baghdad Al-Karkh, Salah al-Din, Baghdad al-Rusafa, and Kirkuk,” noting that “Najaf and Diyala are the provinces with the least demand for modernization centers, because they have high registration rates in previous modernization and registration processes.”
