Ramallah – Together – the Minister of Education and Higher Education, Dr. Amjad Barham; Today, UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell and her accompanying delegation arrived at Jaba’ Boys’ Secondary School, where during the visit, which witnessed the participation of Undersecretary Dr. Nafi Assaf, representatives of the Ministry, Deputy Governor of Jerusalem Abdullah Siam, and the Jerusalem Suburbs Directorate highlighted the suffering of students in reaching their school due to the occupation’s checkpoints.

Barham and the visiting guest discussed ways to protect the right of Palestinian children to life and education and enable them to have safe access to their schools, considering that targeting education in Gaza, the West Bank and Jerusalem is a transgression that contradicts human values ??and international charters and treaties, and crosses all red lines.

While the Deputy Governor of Jerusalem, Abdullah Siam, touched on some of the difficulties facing education in Jerusalem that do not stop at the
limits of targeting the curriculum.

The Executive Director of UNICEF expressed her influence by what she heard from the students, and what she saw of the students’ suffering as they faced daily difficulties in reaching their school.

The school’s students, its principal, and representatives of the local community presented positions expressing difficult daily experiences as a result of the school being located in an area of ??direct contact with the occupation army and its settlers.

After that, Minister Barham and the accompanying delegation visited the Jerusalem Suburbs Directorate, where he was briefed on the reality of work in the directorate, appreciating the role of the directorate’s staff in serving the educational process, and praising the efforts of the teachers and the directorate’s staff in facing difficult challenges.

The Minister noted that education was and will remain a lever for our national project, a tool for liberation, and an oasis to express the creativity of our students and teachers,
considering that the educational field is the pillar of giving.

For his part, Director General of Education, Issam Ezzat, reviewed the most prominent challenges facing the educational process, which have increased due to the current circumstances.
