The Minister of Interior calls on tribal sheikhs to cooperate with the security services in controlling unlicensed weapons and enhancing security and stability

The Minister of Interior, Abd al-Amir al-Shammari, called on the tribal sheikhs to cooperate with the security services in controlling illegal weapons, combating the clan tyranny, and enhancing security and stability.

The Ministry of Interior stated, in a statement, that “according to the directives of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the Minister of Interior, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, met the sheikhs and notables of the tribes in Maysan Governorate, which he arrived today, with a high-level security delegation that included a number of leaders and officers.”

Al-Shammari stressed, according to the statement, the need for the indigenous Iraqi clans to stand with the security services in controlling unlicensed weapons, and combating the phenomenon of clan thrift and drugs, and other phenomena and cases alien to Iraqi society.

During the meeting, the Minister of Interior called on clan sheikhs and notables to “intensify cooperation with all security services to enhance security and stability,” calling for working to direct children to avoid behavior that violates the law, and for the clan not to take on the role of police stations when conflicts occur.

He pointed out, “The need for everyone to work with the help of tribal sheikhs and notables to reject any behavior or actions that offend or harm society, including the phenomenon of indiscriminate shooting and clan violence, and help government agencies combat and eliminate drugs and support legal procedures.”

The Minister listened to a number of interventions and discussions by those present, who praised the Minister’s direct communication with them.
