The President of the Federal Supreme Court, Judge Jassim Muhammad Abboud, met with the German Ambassador to Baghdad, Christiane Hohmann.
The court stated in a statement, ‘During the meeting, it was emphasized that the Federal Supreme Court was keen to establish bilateral relations with international constitutional courts to exchange legal expertise in the field of constitutional judiciary to develop it and benefit from the accumulated experiences of constitutional courts in a way that contributes to the correct democratic construction and the preservation of public and private rights and freedoms.’
The statement indicated that the progress of relations between Iraq and Germany was also reviewed, stressing the importance of strengthening them to benefit from German expertise in developing the work of the Iraqi constitutional judiciary.
The German ambassador explained that her country is looking forward to building strong relations with the Iraqi side at various levels, especially in the field of constitutio
nal judiciary, in order to consolidate the principles of democracy and state building in a manner consistent with that system, and to distance the democratic process from sectarian quotas, politics, and the role of the constitutional courts in that.
