The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received an official invitation from his Italian counterpart, Sergio Mattarella, to visit Italy.
A presidential statement stated: “The President met today with the Italian Ambassador to Iraq, Maurizio Krikanti, and at the outset of the meeting, the President offered his condolences to the Italian government and people for the victims of the floods that hit the Italian city of Bologna.”
The President of the Republic affirmed Iraq’s aspiration to strengthen relations between the two countries in the political, commercial and scientific fields, and to expand the horizons of cooperation in a manner that serves the common interests of the two friendly peoples, stressing the need to continue international efforts and joint coordination in the field of combating terrorism and exchanging experiences to confront climate changes, praising Italy’s role in supporting Iraq during the period of its war against terrorism and its efforts to provide humanitarian aid.
For his part, Ambassador Krikanti affirmed Italy’s keenness to continue the friendship and cooperation relations with Iraq in a deeper way, pointing out that the security and political stability that prevails in Iraq will be reflected positively on activating international investment activity in a way that achieves more prosperity and progress.
The meeting discussed preparations for the upcoming state visit of the President to Italy, where the President of the Republic received an official invitation from his Italian counterpart, which is the first state visit organized by an Iraqi President.
