The President of the Republic: The Iraqis succeeded in confronting terrorism and building the state

Baghdad - The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, confirmed today, Wednesday, the success of the Iraqis in confronting terrorism and building the state, while noting that democracy is an appropriate system for achieving justice in Iraq.

Rashid said in his speech at the Future Resilience Forum, which was held at the headquarters of the Naval College (FRF) in London, that “the Iraqi people steadfastly faced serious challenges, as the most prominent meaning of steadfastness was the exit of millions of Iraqis to participate in the parliamentary elections despite terrorist attacks and bombings,” noting that “the experience Democracy in Iraq was born after the severe suffering of our people throughout the years of tyranny and its totalitarian regime.

He added, "The birth of democracy was difficult, as it was accompanied by the 2003 war that ended with the overthrow of the dictatorial regime, and with the declaration of the occupation of Iraq, and then the security, political, economic, and social repercussions that continued for more than 15 years, and we are still dealing with some of its consequences until now," noting that "after decades of the struggle against dictatorship. The most serious challenge that the democratic experience faced after 2003 was the threat of terrorism, as Al-Qaeda continued to target cities, neighborhoods, markets, mosques, and residences. We have gone through years when terrorists detonated 10 or more car bombs every day, in addition to suicide crimes using explosive belts against human densities.

He stated that "the Iraqi people steadfastly faced serious challenges, and the most prominent meaning of steadfastness was represented by the exit of millions of Iraqis to participate in the election of members of Parliament in the various electoral cycles amid the crimes of terrorist bombings," explaining that "work was continuing to strengthen the building of institutions and the development of institutional work among the factors in consolidating Democracy and its resilience in the face of terrorism.

He explained, "The other challenge, in addition to the challenges of terrorism, is rebuilding the state whose institutions were destroyed after the 2003 war, especially building the armed forces and security institutions on the foundations of democracy. We succeeded in this path despite all the difficulties of establishment and despite the challenges of terrorism. We also succeeded in consolidating Principles of human rights, promoting freedoms, developing services, and working for social justice.”

He stressed that "what is important in all of this is steadfastness for democracy and continued progress, as democracy is the appropriate system for achieving justice in a country with diverse components like Iraq," pointing out that "this requires human development in various educational, industrial and economic fields, in a way that actually helps in strengthening "The people's adherence to democracy and its development."

He pointed out, "Work is continuing through the institutions of government and parliament to achieve many of the necessary legislations to continue building the state on solid and fair foundations for all," explaining that "the challenges facing our experience can be a factor of strength and resilience for democracy."
