The President Stresses Importance Of Using Advanced Technologies And Modern Irrigation Methods To Improve The Agricultural Situation

The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, stressed the importance of using advanced technologies and modern irrigation methods to advance the agricultural situation.

A presidential statement stated that the President of the Republic received, today, Tuesday, at the Baghdad Palace, the Minister of Agriculture, Abbas Al-Alaywi, and during the meeting they discussed the challenges facing Iraq in the issue of water scarcity and its direct effects on the agricultural sector.

The President of the Republic indicated, according to the statement, the importance of working to secure fair water shares from the source countries, stressing the importance of the agricultural sector as one of the basic resources for the national economy and providing food security.

The President of the Republic called for encouraging investment opportunities in this vital sector to achieve sustainable development, and the use of advanced technologies and modern irrigation methods to advance the agricultural situation and to confront the environmental effects of drought, desertification and climate change, which has become a global crisis.

He touched on Iraq’s participation in the water conference organized by the United Nations in New York recently, and the outputs he called for in addressing the global water crisis, and the affirmation of the heads and leaders of the participating countries to support Iraq’s efforts in this field.

For his part, the Minister of Agriculture expressed his thanks and appreciation to the President of the Republic for his valuable directives, explaining the ministry’s plan for the current agricultural season, and its endeavor to confront the obstacles facing this vital sector.
