Nairobi: Three Kenyan soldiers were killed in an explosion in the eastern part of the country.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Kenyan military stated that an explosion killed three soldiers while they were patrolling a road in the east of the country, near the Somali border. The statement noted that an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonated on Tuesday on the road between Sankuri and Kiunga, a coastal town 12 kilometers from the Somali border.
In a related development, the Al Qaeda-linked Al Shabaab movement reported on its website that at least two Kenyan soldiers were killed and others wounded in an explosion targeting a military convoy. However, the group did not claim direct responsibility for the explosion.
