Turkiye Rejects EU Maritime Spatial Planning Maps Between Turkiye and Greece.

Ankara: Turkiye rejected the European Union’s (EU) maritime spatial planning maps between Turkiye and Greece. This came in a statement issued by Turkiye’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs commenting on the EU’s maritime spatial planning maps between the two countries.

According to Qatar News Agency, the statement said that Turkiye was following these developments closely and had informed the parties concerned of its firm position to preserve their rights in the Aegean and Mediterranean seas. “We will not allow the violation of Turkiye’s rights with this Planning,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in the statement carried by Anadolu Agency (AA), adding that it had taken all necessary measures in that regard.

Additionally, the Turkish Foreign Ministry stated that this Planning is “null and void” with “no legal effect.” They asserted that the EU has no authority to comment on maritime disputes between sovereign states and that the EU’s involvement in such initiatives complicates the resolution of these disputes.

The Ministry further emphasized that unilateral attempts by the EU “undermine the efforts to find a comprehensive, just and durable solution to the interrelated Aegean issues,” stressing that problems should be solved “on the basis of international law and good neighborliness.”
