Awaza: The Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3) commenced in the Turkmen city of Awaza on Tuesday. The official opening ceremony was attended by United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, along with other officials and participants.
According to Qatar News Agency, the conference will run until August 8, bringing together more than 20 heads of state and government, in addition to 3,000 delegates from international organizations, civil society, youth, academia, and the private sector.
UN data highlights that Landlocked Developing Countries face hurdles in trade, connectivity, and development due to their lack of direct sea access, which hinders their progress towards sustainable development goals.
The LLDC3 offers a platform to explore solutions and forge partnerships, addressing challenges and unlocking their full potential through innovative solutions, strategic cooperation, and increased investment.
