United nations: United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres has welcomed the signing of the first phase of the peace plan by Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), praising at the same time the efforts of the mediators.

According to Qatar News Agency, Guterres made a statement on social media platform X, expressing his support for the agreement aimed at securing a ceasefire and the release of hostages in Gaza. This agreement is based on a proposal put forward by US President Donald Trump. He commended the diplomatic efforts of the United States, Qatar, Egypt, and Turkiye for facilitating this crucial breakthrough.

Guterres urged all parties involved to “seize this momentous opportunity” and emphasized the importance of fully adhering to the terms of the agreement. He highlighted the necessity of providing immediate and unhindered access for humanitarian supplies and essential commercial goods into Gaza.

Concluding his statement, Guterres called upon all stakeholders to seize the opportunity to establish a credible political path forward. He stressed the importance of ending the occupation and recognizing the right to self-determination of the Palestinian people, ultimately leading to a two-state solution that would enable both Israelis and Palestinians to live in peace and security.
