UN Security Council to Hold Emergency Meeting Friday at Poland’s Request

Warsaw: The UN Security Council announced plans to convene an emergency meeting on Friday, prompted by a request from Poland. This move comes in response to an incident on Wednesday, where 19 drones, which Poland claims were Russian, violated its airspace.

According to Qatar News Agency, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski emphasized the significance of this event, labeling it as an unprecedented attack on a member state of not just the UN, but also the European Union and NATO. Sikorski highlighted the importance of alerting the global community to the situation, while Russia has denied any involvement in the alleged drone activity.

Sikorski further pointed out that this breach serves as a challenge not only for Poland but also for NATO collectively, affecting both military and political dimensions. In response to the incident, Poland has imposed restrictions on air traffic along its eastern borders, specifically with Belarus and Ukraine, effective immediately and lasting until December 9.
