UNRWA Reports Over 660,000 Gaza Children Out of School for Third Consecutive Year

Gaza: The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) confirmed Saturday that 660,000 children in the Gaza Strip are out of school for the third year in a row due to the ongoing war of annihilation waged by the Israeli occupation since Oct. 7, 2023.

According to Qatar News Agency, the ongoing conflict in Gaza is severely impacting children, who remain vulnerable and without educational opportunities. UNRWA emphasized the urgent need for the protection of children and highlighted the critical right to education, noting that the prolonged conflict is directly responsible for keeping these children out of the classroom.

UNRWA further stressed that the ongoing situation in Gaza risks creating a lost generation, underscoring the necessity of a ceasefire to allow children to safely return to school and resume their normal lives. The agency’s statement called for immediate action to protect children’s rights and futures.

The devastating impact of the Gaza conflict is further emphasized by the loss of life among young students. Since the onset of hostilities, over 17,085 school students and more than 1,261 college students have been killed. The conflict has also resulted in injuries to over 25,213 school students and 2,671 college students, according to the latest figures from the Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education, covering the period between Oct. 7, 2023, and August 2025.
