UNRWA: Staff, Doctors Fainting Due to Hunger While Performing Their Duties

Gaza: The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) on Tuesday said that its staff and caregivers in Gaza are hungry and exhausted.

According to Qatar News Agency, UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini highlighted the dire conditions faced by caretakers, including doctors, nurses, journalists, and humanitarians, who are experiencing hunger and exhaustion. Many have reportedly fainted while performing their duties, such as reporting atrocities or attempting to alleviate suffering.

Lazzarini criticized the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation’s (GHF) aid distribution scheme, which has been supported by the US and in place since May following a partial lifting of an 11-week blockade by Israel. He described the scheme as a “sadistic death trap,” alleging that snipers have been firing randomly on crowds, likening it to having a “license to kill.”

The UNRWA Commissioner-General further reported that more than 1,000 starving individuals have been killed since the end of May, calling for an urgent cessation of these actions.
