Al Diwan in Germany Hosts Panel Discussion for Arab Creatives at Berlin Film Festival

Berlin: The Arab Cultural House "Al Diwan" of the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Germany held a panel discussion on tales from a tumultuous world on the sidelines of the 76th Berlin International Film Festival. Moderated by director Samir Nasr, the panel featured three Arab filmmakers: Lebanese director Rania Rafei, Egyptian director Mohamed Hammad, and Palestinian director Abdallah Al Khatib.

According to Qatar News Agency, the discussion centered on how current global shifts are influencing traditional narratives, examining how these changes can be explored through innovative cinematic presentations. The filmmakers also shared the challenges they face during various stages of film production, including issues like self-censorship, clashing freedoms, and the prioritization of human principles.

In his opening remarks, HE Ambassador Abdalla bin Ibrahim Al Hamar, Chair of Al Diwan's Board of Trustees and Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Germany, emphasized the importance of cinematic works as influential soft powers. He highlighted their role in preserving national memory and defending humanitarian principles. The ambassador praised the impact of Qatari cultural and artistic institutions, such as the Doha Film Institute (DFI), in not only providing funding but also enhancing the capacity for innovation and promoting Arab arts as a means of dialogue and fostering connections among people.
