Doha: The State of Qatar has expressed approval for Australia’s declaration of intent to recognize the State of Palestine, alongside New Zealand’s consideration of a similar recognition. Qatar views these announcements as steps that align with international legitimacy and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, supporting the Palestinian people’s rights to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state along the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

According to Qatar News Agency, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that these actions align with the international consensus for the peaceful resolution of the Palestinian question. This consensus, reached at an international conference, advocates for the two-state solution and a roadmap for increasing global recognition of the Palestinian State.

The ministry has reiterated Qatar’s call for all nations that have yet to recognize the State of Palestine to follow suit. Such actions would demonstrate a commitment to international law and support the historic rights of the Palestinian people to their territories.
