Cairo: The State of Qatar took part in the 10th International Fatwa Conference, which commenced on Tuesday in Cairo, Egypt, and is set to run for two days under the theme “The Making of the Competent Mufti in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.” This significant event brings together key figures from the religious and scholarly communities worldwide to explore the intersection of Islamic law and modern technology.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Qatari delegation was led by Khalid bin Shaheen Al Ghanim, the Assistant Undersecretary for Islamic Affairs at the Ministry. The delegation also included Jassim Abdullah Al Ali, Director of the Department of Da’wah and Religious Guidance, and Abdul Salam Mohamed Al Rajhi, Head of the Islamic network division at the same department.
The conference, organized by Egypt’s Dar Al Ifta and the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide, aims to address the implications of the technological revolution on the practice of issuing Fatwas. It seeks to establish scientific frameworks and standards that enable Muftis to blend a profound understanding of Islamic law with the realities of the digital age, addressing both the challenges and opportunities posed by artificial intelligence technologies.
Participants will delve into five major themes, including the formation of modern, rational Muftis, the role of Fatwa in the age of AI, the challenges faced by rational Muftis due to AI, the development of institutional Fatwa work with AI, and the experiences of Fatwa institutions in fostering rational Muftis in the era of AI.
The conference is hosting representatives from over 70 countries and will launch several initiatives, research projects, and training programs designed to enhance the skills of Muftis and effectively integrate Islamic jurisprudence with contemporary technological advancements.
