Doha: Russia called on Iran and Israel to exercise maximum restraint to enable a transition toward a peaceful political and diplomatic resolution, warning that the situation in the Middle East is alarming. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said in a statement that the Middle East is facing a worrying escalation, with increasing casualties and damage to residential buildings on both sides.
According to Qatar News Agency, Peskov emphasized Russia’s appeal to Iran and Israel to maintain utmost restraint to allow for a shift toward peaceful political and diplomatic negotiations. He noted that Russia currently perceives at least some Israeli hesitation in pursuing a peaceful path to resolve the conflict with Iran and expressed willingness to mediate in this regard.
Last Friday, Israel launched airstrikes targeting nuclear and military facilities in Iran, killing several commanders and scientists alongside civilian casualties. Iran responded with missile and drone attacks on sites in the occupied territories, raising fears of a broader confrontation threatening regional stability.
