The Administrative Control and Transparency Authority (ACTA) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) will hold on Sunday an online training camp for the participants of the Arab Youth Anti-Corruption Hackathon, which will be held in Doha from September 10-14.
The training camp, which will run until August 31, aims to improve the basic skills of the participants of the Arab Youth Anti-Corruption Hackathon. Its activity includes short training modules related to programming, marketing and communication, concepts of corruption, integrity and others.

The first day of the training camp will start with an opening speech by Director of Public Relations and Communications Department at ACTA Eid Al Hajri, a speech by the representative of Microsoft, and an introduction to the hackathon by the UNODC, to be followed by a set of presentations on many topics such as: corruption and the United Nations Convention against Corruption, the role of youth in advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the second challenge of the hackathon which is the promotion and protection of whistleblowers.
In the following days, the rest of the hackathon challenges will be addressed, in addition to a range of topics, including: using technology to meet challenges, Microsoft Azure, developing artificial intelligence applications, development tools and platforms such as blockchain and cloud computing, social entrepreneurship, innovative thinking, how to ensure compliance of emerging firms with business integrity standards, and how to match the problem and the solution.
Arab Youth Anti-Corruption Hackathon initiative aims to seize the energy and potential of youth to innovate and develop technological solutions for corruption-related problems that affect their communities in six field namely the challenges of transparency in public procurement processes, encourage whistleblowing and establish mechanisms to protect whistleblowers, protect sports from corruption, report corruption related to water management, enhance the ability of the private sector to confront corruption, and innovation in education. A selected jury consists of global experts in technology and innovation and specialists in the fields of integrity and transparency, who will cast their expert votes and nominate the three winning projects.
Young participants, who will work in coding teams, will develop technological solutions related to one of the six challenges of the "Arab Youth Anti-Corruption Hackathon" initiative, which include transparency in public procurement and the promotion of integrity of public procurement processes, whistleblowing promotion and protection by innovating the reporting of corruption and the safeguard of whistleblowers, safeguarding sports from corruption by using technology to detect match-fixing on and off the field of play, reporting corruption linked to water management by safeguarding a valuable resource from corruption, strengthening private sector resilience to corruption through a gender-sensitive approach, and innovating education by ensuring the digitalization of educational systems upholds values of integrity, ethics, and transparency.
Coding4Integrity Arab Youth Anti-Corruption Hackathon, slated for September in Qatar on the margins of the 20th anniversary of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC), is considered one of the most important elements of the Global Resource for Anti-Corruption Education and Youth Empowerment (GRACE) initiative of UNODC with the support of the State of Qatar. The hackathon aims to seize the energy and potential of youth to innovate and develop technological solutions for corruption-related, in addition to increasing youth employment opportunities and promoting innovation and technology.
